Bienen – bees

At the moment ‘Gartennull’ draw attention to the death of bees. In our garden we don’t recognise this, because there is always a buzzing and humming in the air, if of bumblebees, wild bees and honey bees we can’t say. But not this time of the  year.
We always wanted to give back some habitat for animals. The farmers removed meadows with old cherry trees, so they could farm the land without any barriers. So we planted flowers and shrubs, which bumblebees, bees (wild and honey), butterfly and other insects estimate – unfortunately also rabbits.  Thanks to the meadow-manager we have no lawn but a meadow. There in early spring the crocus are flowering. And because we only cut the grass two times a year all the flowers are self seeding – also the crocus.
Last year I was standing before the germander – there was a humming of the honey bees. I was thinking aloud to a friend of mine to erect a beehive in the garden. At the end of last year I also read in the book ‘The gardens of Jane Austin’, that her family chose a house, only it had a garden, where the sister of Jane could keep bees. This was the moment, when I decided to take the project beekeeper in hand. But beekeeping seems to be popular at the moment. Courses for beginner are booked out. So I look for information in internet, take part in a meeting of beekeeper and today at a lesson in practise.
I saw the trailer of the film ‘More than Honey’. And it brought me tears in my eyes, that also this animals  are kept in intensive livestock farming.

Somit gibt es heute keine Bilder.
Therefore today are no photos.

By the way, yesterday I saw the first pale tussock. And also in our garden the pale tussock is back.

Oper Frankfurt ‚OTELLO’– opera Frankfurt ‘OTELLO’

Without a subscription for the opera we would not go out of the house respectively the flat. But so you have to go – also if such a subscription is a little bit stuffy.

OTELLO
Giuseppe Verdi
1813 - 1901
Dramma lirico in vier Akten
Text von Arrigo Boito nach The tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice (1603) von William Shakespeare.

OTELLO
Giuseppe Verdi
1813 - 1901
Dramma lirico in four acts
Libretto by Arrigo Boito after Othello by William Shakespeare
First performed February 5th 1887, Teatro alla Scala, Milan

About the piece
To be unloved: what greater hurt can be imagined? Jago, Otello’s standard bearer who has been passed over for promotion, now knows exactly. He also knows all the tricks of intrigue, how to draw suspicion, proves himself an expert in treachery, and the calculation of power. As a virtuoso and archetype in power politics he is also the enzyme which allows jealousy, the »green-eyed monster«, to penetrate the soul of his hated black superior.
Verdi and his librettist Arrigo Boito make Otello’s adversary almost satanic. Never before in the history of opera had true evil been expressed so blasphemously as in Jago’s great Credo aria: »I believe in a cruel god who has created me in his image.« Otello’s wife Desdemona, the victim in this profound tragedy of jealousy, is the diametric opposite to evil. The eponymous hero stands torn between these two extremes.
Verdi’s late work Otello, written after a good ten year period of stagnation, brought on not least by Wagner’s synthesis of the arts aesthetic, was an incomparable new beginning. New was the expressive sound representing the storm at the beginning of the opera, new the boundary breaking tutti outbursts in the orchestra, new the taut, never straying music dramaturgical concentration, new the sad, lyrical colours which accompany the deeply moving prayer of the young woman before she is murdered. This opera does not »open« with a normal overture, it crashs in, a storm rages. Otello tries to swim to the surface in the towering waves of his own dreadful story. He is only able to set aside the stigma attached to his dark skin for short amounts of time. Desdemona’s unconditional and obstinate love make her a fighter for forgiveness and goodness. The role will be sung by Leah Crocetto, a young star of the music world. Desdemona’s antithesis is Jago, driven by his belief »in a cruel god«. His credo is one of the most powerful moments in Verdi’s late masterpiece. Clever, and in his malicious way horribly understanding, Jago knows just how to steer Otello back onto the path of trauma and brutality. His tormented mind devours Desdemona as well as the »Moor of Venice«.

Synopsis
Otello returns safely to Cyprus in a raging storm and is welcomed home by all except Jago, who hates Otello because he passed him over for promotion in favour of Cassio, and is working on a plan to destroy Otello. He advises Cassio to ask Desdemona, Otello’s wife, to try and persuade Otello to pardon him. Jago sows seeds of jealousy in Otello’s mind, making him suspect that Desdemona of being unfaithful with Cassio. Desdemona’s protestations of innocence are to no avail - he kills her. Horrified by Desdemona’s murder, Emilia reveals the truth. Jago flees. Otello lies against Desdemona’s body. Life, as we know it, has ceased to exist for him.
Normally I show a picture of the view of the construction site from the opera – but this time I preferred to stay warm inside with a glass of wine. Therefore some of today (Sunday) at a distance – from the ‘Museumsufer’ – a view to the construction site.

Ohne weitere Worte without any words

Samstags bei Odile – Saturday at Odile

Here I think, was more snow than at our garden. But as usually it was very lovely. But despite the snow we find some plants, also if they are not this time from the garden of Odile.
But the next time, I will find some plants, which Odile propagated by cuttings.

Donnerstag zum Gartenmarkt im Palmengarten – Thursday our visit to the garden market in the Palmengarden (Frankfurt/Main)

First some pictures of a construction site – no it’s not in Cologne but – in Frankfurt/Main. The construction site – near the ‘Römer’ – is flooded calculated. It should avoid damage by frost.

Despite a glimpse at the thermometer, we decided, we go to the garden market in Frankfurt. In front of the ‘Palmengarten’ , there was a snowball fight.

In front of the ‘Palmengarten’ , there was a snowball fight.

In the ‘Palmengarten’ you see a wintry glory. You could feel sorry for the exhibitors. Nevertheless there was no wind, sometimes you could see the sun, and only here and there were some snowflakes.

But some exhibitors were missing and the ways between the tents were not optimal. Barely gritted and slippery – and the ‘Palmengarten’ have a lot of trainees. Maybe it’s not their duties.

Also alles nicht so erfolgreich.
If the event would be ‘before our very door’’, I think I wouldn’t go anymore. It was quite disappointing. No bookshop (at the other years there were two), I missed the woman who sold quite exquisite gardening gloves; seed were available only at one stall (the one with rarities of old vegetable). All in one, not so successful, but nevertheless I purchased something. But I put all on the balcony – during the night I cover all. At the moment all rest still – also the work.
Because the weather was sometimes sunny, we walked – despite the bad ways we had a little walk round the area in the ‘Palmengarten’ where you could see the spring. By the way, the temperature during the night in the  ‘Palmengarten’ was – 11° Celsius.
