Walnussernte – harvest of walnuts

It is raining and raining. I think, in the garden all will be brown (leaves, stalks etc.). In the papers about gardens there are always beautiful pictures, I always ask myself: ‘How is this possible? Is there never rain in this garden?’
Currently I shell our walnuts. Then they are dried in the oven. This year they look awful.

I want to refer to the temporary exhibition Queens of the Merovingians’ in the ‘Archeologischen Museum’ in Frankfurt. The series of lectures will begin tomorrow.

Letzte Oktobertage – last days of October

Yesterday was sleet and consequentially the mood to go to the garden kept within limit.  The cranes were flying, but this time more to the Taunus. We couldn’t see them from the balcony, but we heard them.

Kraniche ziehen – passage of cranes

Despite the rain today the cranes were flying - unfortunately not over our garden, but we saw them quite good from the balcony. The photos are made by the meadow-manager.

Herbst bei Müller und Pfützner – Autumn at Müller and Pfützner

We also work in the garden – even though it does not seem so. But the meadow manager lifted iris graminea (grass-leaved flag) and the head gardener has parted. But where should we plant the many rootstocks. So we went to the nursery Müller und Pfützern with a small present. At the same time, we had a look around.

‚Sticheleien’ in Michelstadt – textilmarket ‚Sticheleien’ in Michelstadt

Before the Christmas fairs are beginning – Christmas is already in the shops – there is the textile market in Michelstadt (a small town in Forest of Odes). For us, it is near (nevertheless still approximately 90 km). For us an advantage: we could decide in the morning, will we go or not. But the weather was so fine; there was no objection to a trip to Michelstadt.  The market has always luck with the weather. It was a marvellous October day. Before you come to the market you have to break down two barriers: a wool shop and than that:

Before we throw ourselves in the fray, we had – as usually - breakfast in the ‘Café am Rathausplatz Leyhausen’. The first stall 'Stitchingand Being astonished' – here I took some pictures; later on the photos are from the museum and the village. .
