Here in Bruges the Benedictines are still living in the beguinage.  We didn’t see any, but in the church they collect money for a heating system. And there was a nice little shop. The narcissus (jonquils) were already – in January – flowering.

Kalenderblatt Mai Brügge– Calendar sheet May Bruges

The Belgians and their French fries. And for this purpose there is a museum in Bruges, which we have to visit.
Here you learn a lot about potatoes and also how they are made. Only I hope that they will not fried in lard of horses but in oil.

Was ich am May so mag – what my liking to May is

The swifts arrive and I like it, when they are flying in the air with crying.
I like the many green shades of the forest and in the garden.
Es gibt – für mich – das erste Eis.
There is the first ice – for me.
And there are the first summer days – for me most of them too hot.
Es gibt Spargel und die ersten Erdbeeren.
There are asparagus and the first strawberries to eat.
O Welt, du bist so wunderschön,
im Mai.
And now the poem which ‘my’ Austrian journal printed from Julius Rodenberg (1831-1914)
How are the trees swaying in bright sunshine,
how high the birds are flying
I would like to be behind
I want to sing above the vales and the hills
o world, you are so beautiful
in May.
Sorry I couldn’t find a translation of this beautiful poem, so I did it by myself.  (Maybe someone would correct me).
