Schwalbenschanz – swallowtail

Zu Ostern ist ein (oder mehrere – zu sehen war immer nur einer) Schwalbenschwanz (Schwalbenschwänzin) öfters im Dill und Bronzefenchel rumgeflattert. Und Anfang Juni haben wir dann neun gefräßige Raupen entdeckt. In der Zwischenzeit sind sie weg. Wir wissen nicht, wo sie sich verpuppen.

At Easter time we saw one (or maybe more – but we only saw one at a time) swallowtail fluttering in the dill and Florence fennel. And at the beginning of June we discovered nine caterpillars. In the meantime they are not here any more. We don’t know were the go for pupation.

Den Riesendill und den Bronzefenchel hat der Wiesenmanager ins Hochbeet gepflanzt. Ich war bei der Aktion nicht zugegen. So sind sie jetzt so hoch, daß man die Blütendolden nicht mehr sehen kann. Gegessen wird er bei uns allerdings nicht – lediglich für Tierchen gepflanzt.

The monster dill and the Florence fennel were planted in the raised bed by the meadow manager. I didn’t attend this action. So they are so high, you can’t see the umbels. But anyway, we don’t eat them – they are planted only for the
animals.
