Urlaub im April (Teil 2) – holidays in April (part 2)

Wasser von oben, an der Seite ein Kanal, und an der anderen Seite, da allerdings meist etwas weiter unten, ein Kanal. Dazwischen die schmalen Auto- bzw. Fahrradwege. Da konnte man nur hoffen, daß nichts entgegenkam.
Water from above, on side one a channel and on the other side a channel as well - however some distance below. Between there was a very narrow road for car respectively bicycles. There you could only hope, nothing is coming towards you.
Aber wir erreichten De Rijp, die älteste Stadt (eher ein Städtchen) Hollands. Was wir allerdings nicht wussten, das am Tag zuvor der Koning und die Koningin hier den Koningdag feierten. Sechs Minuten waren sie da, dafür Massen von Leuten.
But we arrived at De Rijp, which is the oldest town (I would say village) of Holland. What was new for us, yesterday the ‘koning’ and the ‘koningin’ celebrated the ‘koningdag’. They were in this village for six minutes, on that account there were thousands of people.  

Das Wetter wurde besser, wir bummelten durch das Örtchen.

Ich musste nur aufpassen, daß ich nicht in Häuser eintrat, da ich dachte, das sei ein Cafe oder ein Krimskramsladen. 
The weather changed to the better, we rambled about the village. I had to be careful, that I didn’t enter houses, because I thought they were coffees or shops with bit and bobs.  

Dann fuhren wir weiter nach – na wohin-
Then we drove further on – where else -

ja  Edam . Kauften Käse, aßen Käsebrötchen und bummelten durch den Ort.
yes Edam. We bought some cheese, ate cheese-filled rolls and strolled through town.

Der Schleusenwärter hatte zu tun. War er mit einer Schleuse fertig, fuhr er zur nächsten – mit dem Fahrrad natürlich.
The sluice keeper had a lot of work. Has he finished with one sluice he had to drive to the next one – naturally with the bicycle.

Dann ging es zum Campingplatz zurück, machten unseren Spaziergang und anschließend zu einem Bier ins Restaurant – unsere Abendroutine.  

Then we returned to the camping side, went for a walk and afterwards drinking beer at the restaurant – our evening routine.
