Ausflug nach Basel – a day trip to Basel

Die Gärtnerin hatte durch Zufall irgendwo ein Plakat gesehen, daß eine Courbet-Ausstellung in der Fondation Beyeler stattfindet. Wir haben  im  Städel Museum in Frankfurt einige Bilder von ihm gesehen. Da wir noch nie eine Ausstellung über Courbet gesehen haben, wurde kurzfristig ein Tagesausflug nach Basel mit der Bahn geplant.

The gardener saw by chance a poster of an exhibition about Courbet in the ‘Fondation Beyeler’ in Basel. We saw some pictures from Courbet in the ‘Städel Museum ‘in Frankfurt. But we have never been to an exhibition with pictures from Courbet, therefore we decided at once to travel by train to Basel.
Wer von Deutschland mit der anreist, sollte nur zum Badischen Bahnhof fahren und dann lieber ein Tagesticket für die Straßenbahn und Busse in Basel nehmen. Das ist billiger als die Fahrt zum Hauptbahnhof in Basel.
When you are coming from Germany it is cheaper to travel till ‘Badischer Bahnhof’ and to take a day ticket for tramway and buses in Basel than to travel to the main station of Basel (SBB).

 Wir waren noch nie in der Fondation Beyeler. Die Ausstellung war schön. Man konnte sich alles in Ruhe ansehen.
We have never been before to the ‘Fondation Beyeler’. The exhibition was nice. You had time to see all calmly.
Deshalb haben wir noch die zweite Ausstellung über PeterDoig angesehen. Wir haben von diesem Maler noch nie gehört – obwohl er
eine Professur in Düsseldorf hat. Diese Ausstellung ist wirklich empfehlenswert. Übrigens, falls es jemanden interessiert – demnächst kommt eine Paul Gaugin Ausstellung hierher.
Therefore we also decided to visit the other exhibition by Peter Doig. We have never heard about this painter before – although he is a professor in Düsseldorf. This exhibition in is well worth seeing. By the way if you are interested there is soon an exhibition there about Paul Gaugin.

 

Das Wetter war nicht so berühmt – d.h. immer wieder Regenschauer. So fuhren wir viel mit der Straßenbahn– da sieht man viel von der Stadt. Als der Regen aufgehört hat, sind wir bummeln gegangen und fanden durch Zufall das Stoffgeschäft Esempio im Spalenberg wieder – waren früher im Totengäßchen.

The weather was not so nice – that means there were always showers of rain. So we travelled a lot by tramway. There you can see a lot of the town. And when the rain finished, we strolled and found by chance again the lovely shop ‘Esempio’ with tissues in the ‘Spalenberg’ – which was before in the Totengäßchen.

 



 

Zum Schluß fanden wir noch dieses schöne Café. Es ist das Stadthauscafe und liegt mitten im Zentrum von Basel.

In the end we found this lovely coffee shop. It is called the ‘Stadthauscafe’  and it is in the center of Basel.
